Acrostic River Poems

Visitors to the exhibition Undercurrents were invited to add a line to an acrostic poem using the letters of the word RIVER. The exhibition in October 2021 was held at Walford Mill on the banks of the River Allen, as part of WCT’s project on rivers and featured sound works by Adrian Newton.

River Allen timeless and forever?
am soothed by sounds of water
Veering towards Wimborne
Engineered by Nature.
Running through our lives.

Richest of Earthly treasures,
Its magical waters bring
Vitality and sustenance
Ever and ever and ever?
Running through my veins.

Respectfully
In and on the water
Venerate the land
Eternally supporting life
Reverencing you all in my waters.

Ripples of delight
Invite us to pause
Vistas of light
Endless currents
Returning from the source

Reminiscing in the ripples
remember the day
Vibrant flash of kingfisher
Elver caught
R  wriggling by

Roll on River!
Ice water freezes
Vile creatures swim towards the sea
Eternally
RUNNING FREE

Racing, racing in
Insects.
Velvety
Endless
Road

Rejoice!  Rejoice!
Immerse yourself.
Very soon – float!
Even slowly sink
READY, EVER READY

Ranunculus Aquafilis or Water Crowfoot,if you prefer
Inspect with your fingers or toes, close your eyes,
Vibrantly visible
Emerging from deep
Reeds in ripples and sunshine.

Robin enjoys fiddling at the mill…
In the river the otters have had their fill….
Violent fishes make wishes
Excitedly blowing out violin kisses…
Rejoicing spirits dance to the reel!
