St James First School Songs from By Hook or By Crook

Helen Porter, Musical Director for By Hook or By Crook,  worked with the children from St James First School on the theme of woods and together they composed two songs.

If Trees Could Talk

If trees could talk, they could tell a million stories.
If trees could talk, they could tell a million tales.
Food for deer, holes for squirrels,
Nests for birds, camouflage for snails.

If trees could walk, they would show us all the forest
If trees could walk, they would lead us to its secrets.
Spirits good and bad, magical creatures wild and mad!

Without the trees the world would be bare and empty
Without the trees we could not live or breathe
Without the trees the world would be bare and empty
Mother Nature would not be.

A Mean Old Fellow

Heavy boots, hot feet
Stale bread, cold meat.

I wouldn’t like to be at school
One hundred years ago
With the whip and the cane
And the changing clock
And nasty old Mister Locke
What a mean old fellow
He loved to shout and bellow!
ROAR!

On time, don’t whine
Clean clothes, shoe shine.

I wouldn’t like to be at school
One hundred years ago
With the whip and the cane
And the changing clock
And nasty old Mister Locke
What a mean old fellow
He loved to shout and bellow!
ROAR!
