Production Manager Brief

Led by Wimborne Community Theatre and working with Millstream Theatre, Kingston Lacy and Wimborne Town of Culture via Wimborne Minster Town Council (WMTC), this largescale production will bring together residents of all ages to create and perform a new piece of theatre inspired by their experiences of home. Performances will take place outdoors within the grounds of Kingston Lacy late September.

We are looking for an experienced Production Manager to manage the smooth technical production of this site-specific show.

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Site Management

  • Site-Specific Planning: Create and deliver the technical set-up, get-in, and get-out schedules across the site and show week, keeping in mind the unique restrictions of working on a historic ecologically sensitive National Trust estate.
  • Power & Infrastructure: Assess and manage outdoor power distribution (e.g., generators, cabling, weatherproofing outdoor electrics).
  • Tech Spec & Liaison: Develop a comprehensive tech spec for the production and act as the primary technical liaison with the Kingston Lacy estate team.
  • Logistics: Secure, drive, and return a hired van to transport technical equipment and props to and from the venue.
  • Inventory & Procurement: Research, order, or hire necessary sound, lighting, and staging equipment within budget, working closely with the Lighting Designer/Associate.  
  • Sustainability: Ensure the event is delivered within The Theatre Green Book’s guiding principles of sustainable delivery.

Show operation

  • Technical Operation: Personally operate or supervise the operation of the technical elements (sound and props) during the performances.
  • Team Coordination: Collaborate with and support WCT team to coordinate the backstage crew, and volunteer runners to ensure smooth show logistics. 
  • Rehearsals & Meetings: Attend one half-day rehearsal (date TBC) to meet the cast and creative team, and coordinate/attend all scheduled production meetings.
  • Risk Assessments: Author and oversee comprehensive Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for the technical setup, audience promenade route, and emergency evacuation procedures. 
  • Weather Contingency: Work with the creative team to develop and implement wet-weather and low-light safety contingencies.
  • H&S Compliance: Ensure all temporary structures, cabling, and lighting rigs are safely secured and compliant with outdoor event safety standards and inline with WCT procedures and policy.
Financial Management 

Budget Control: Manage the technical budget tightly. No costs are to be incurred beyond the established budget without prior written approval from the Artistic Directors or Co-Producers.
