Voices of Freedom Concert with Palida Choir

WCT members were invited to weave poetry and key texts between songs by Palida, at Karen Wimhurst's recent Voices of Freedom concert of new music.
Cellist, Emily Burridge, performed her solo work Prayer for the Rivers, originally created for Chartres Cathedral. She was also a featured soloist in Karen Wimhurst’s new piece Freedoms, alongside soprano Abigail Fiddik and Palida Choir. Central to this work are lyrics by writer, Robin Walter, inspired by Roosevelt’s Four Freedoms.
In 2023, Palida, alongside other choirs across the UK, jointly commissioned eight black composers to create new songs for acappella choir as part of a Black Lives Matter initiative. In the second half of the programme, they gave a Dorset premiere of many of these uplifting new works.
